This weekend, as part of my random tea travels, my choice of tea is Kurihara Tea Heritage Gyokuro Green Tea by yunomi.life. Traveling above 4000 feet above sea levels, with no electricity to boil water, I went the old school way.
Fire pit, stainless steel cup plus a water temperature gauge. As I did not steep this in the traditional way, I used a non filtered tea cup. This has been the liveliest color of green tea I've observed. The contrast of color from my background accentuated the deep brightness of the tea leaves. As recommended, initial steeping is 122f at 2 minutes, followed with 195f at 5-15 seconds.
First steeping, it had a very light pale green color. Due to the low temperature, it had a sweetness that I've always wanted in green tea. The sweet vegetative, spinach like scent and taste, with almost no bitterness, will capture a eureka effect...at least for me. A reminder of spring season. Its sweetness stems from the "heritage" traditional method of shading. Knowing the health benefits of green tea, I indulged in this experience.
2nd steeping produced a lime, grassy color. Could be what I expect from a green tea. With the higher temperate, the bitterness and medium body definitely was expected. My palate of steamed asparagus left a pleasant aftertaste of this green tea.
